Whitefriars College
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Whitefriars is a Catholic boys school in Donvale, Victoria, Australia.
Whitefriars College reflects the tradition of the Carmelites. A Catholic school, Whitefriars is known for its school uniform including a thick brown blazer. They have a laptop program, where all students receive a laptop to do most of their work on.
The College motto, "Almae in Fide Parentis" (In the Protection of a Loving Mother) conveys something of the Order’s spirit and the way in which it endeavours to reach out to the students in its care. Through our mission as a Catholic College, Whitefriars seeks to enable students to understand the principles and values of the Catholic faith and to experience these principles and values in a caring community to which they feel they belong. The staff at Whitefriars believes these ideals can only be realized in relation to students if they are also aimed for in the students’ homes.
The College staff relies heavily on the support of parents in the education of the boys entrusted to their care. We believe that a co-operative relationship between home and school provides the foundation for effectively pursuing the College's aims and ideals.
During the year the school raises thousands of dollars to give to various charities, they also help the less fortunate in East Timor. The school raised $20,000 during Super Really Cool (SRC) Week for East Timor in 2006.
They always encourage students getting involved in their communities and have a strong community service record.
The school has two student run community service organisations, the Key Club, sponsored by the Doncaster-Templestowe Kiwanis, and Young St. Vinnie's. Both groups work in the school community as well as in the wider community in a number of projects. The Key Club runs a recycling drive and St Vinnies runs a weekly blood donation drive, in which VCE students are encouraged to give blood.
