Whitecrook

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Whitecrook is a small town in the south-east of Clydebank in Scotland. It is neighboured by areas such as Yoker and Clydebank. It borders the Forth and Clyde canal to the north and Dumbarton Road to the south.

The town is named after Whitecrook farm that used to stand on its location prior to the building of houses.

It has one non-denominational primary school, Whitecrook Primary, a Catholic primary school, Our Holy Redeemer's (usually referred to as O.H.R), and a Catholic high school - Saint Andrew's High School. It also has a hospice called Saint Margaret's Hospice, which is still currently undergoing development, much to the annoyance of local residents located behind the hospice who have reportedly had their lanes extremely flooded as a result of the poor construction techniques.

Local amenities include laser-tag and go-karting on John Knox Street, Whitecrook park on Barns Street, two bowling clubs and Clydebank Rugby Club.

Local transport is provided in two main forms: buses frequently travel along East Barns Street providing easy and fast transport to Glasgow City Centre. Services include numbers 62, 66, 204 and 205 buses. Rail provision is provided by two local stations, Clydebank to the west and Yoker to the east of the area.

Chicanes were placed along East Barns Street and Barns Street due to speeding problems identified in the early 1990s.
