White afro is a term designated the wearing of long, usually curly hair by Caucasian males in such a way that it protrudes significantly from their heads. It is so called because it resembles the popular African-American hair style, the afro.

A white afro should be curly, thick and rise from the head. The white afro does not have to be as curly as the traditional afro worn by people of African descent. If the hair in question is of only typical thickness and laid flat on the head, it is merely considered a long hairstyle.

“Gafro” is an abbreviated term for a "Ginger Afro" a slang term designated the wearing of long, curly red hair in the shape of an afro by Caucasian individuals both male and female. It is so called because it resembles the popular African-American hair style, the afro. The slang originates from Dublin (most notably South Dublin), Ireland, where there is large population of people with red haired. It has become most fashionable in recent years to wear a “Gafro” after Greg Coffey, a notable Dublin socialite and fashionista began to wear one. As result of Greg Coffey’s public life the “Gafro” has become synonymous with ostentatious lifestyle and wealth. Many Dubliners can now be seen sporting a “Gafro” as result.

A Gafro should be curly, thick, rise from the head and - most importantly - red. The Gafro does not have to be as tight as the traditional afro worn by people of African descent. If the hair in question is not red it is merely considered a White afro.[citation needed]
