White Lodge
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
White Lodge is the first stage of training at the Royal Ballet School, London.
This stage of training is mainly residential and is for students from the age of 11 to 16.
[edit] Admission
Students audition for the School in school years 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. It was built in 1727 for King George the second. At the time it took the name of Stone Lodge and then later was changed to New Lodge. In 1955 it was taken over by Sadlers Wells Ballet Company as its junior school. It was later given the title of the Royal Ballet School Junior School. It has been used for the Royal Ballet Schools lower school sence then and has studios named after famous dancers.
As so many people audition for the school, it is very hard to get a place. The school usually takes around 12 boys and 12 girls.
[edit] Academic studies
Apart from the ballet, White Lodge also offers academic teaching, with an average GCSE points per student of 364.5. To give context, this placed the school 10th out of 15 schools in their LEA (the range being 278.5-601.3).
