[edit] History

White City began on 80 acres owned by Johnstone Lipsett. The community became a hamlet in 1958, a village on 1 March 1967 and a town on 1 November 2000.

[edit] Services

Water, gas and power utilities in White City are managed by their respective provincial crown corporations. Cable television is provided by SaskTel and Regina-based Access Communications, and broadband internet access is available through Access Communications' cable service or SaskTel's DSL service. Digital cellular phone service is provided by SaskTel Mobility, Telus and Rogers.

Some areas of White City are serviced by a modern central sewer system; most remaining areas are slated for central sewer hookup before 2008.

White City has one gas station (White City Esso), two convenience stores, an SGI-accredited insurance broker, three restaurants, an ice hockey arena, a library and a staffed Canada Post outlet. Housing growth has steadily increased on the south side of the town. The Emerald Park Golf and Country club is nearby and offers a fully serviced club house and a 27-hole golf course.

In early 2006, Emerald Park Course was currently embroiled in litigation regarding golfers teeing off of the 9th hole hitting into the yards or houses of the nearby subdivision. It was ordered to redesign the course, but has since filed an appeal with the Court of Appeal for Saskatchewan. As of 23 May 2006, a decision had not been rendered.

[edit] Education

White City School provides education for Kindergarten through grade eight. Students in grades 9 through 12 are bused 10 minutes northeast to Greenall High School in Balgonie.
