We speak of the metal band Whirlwind, that has caught Sri Lanka by storm; releasing Pain ~ Wedana, the first ever Sinhala Metal album in the country.

The band is armed with 7 members from hell it self starting with, two vocal - lead rhythm - guitarists, a background vocal, left handed bassist, a background vocal keyboardist and at last a background vocal - Drummer. Up on stage the demons unleash more hell on their home country by giving life to heavy Metal. A power full force that has shaken the SLBC Top of the Pops Hit Parade chart already. The band began by covering reputed Sinhala solo artistes, and later moved on to covering alternative rock bands such as Creed. They were then introduced to heavy metal, and now believe themselves to be the best metal band in Sri Lanka, although they admit to having a poor technical knowledge of music, and state that they have a long way to go in making music with any variation.

The album Pain is the first Sri Lankan Sinhala metal album with a story line. The album caries the story of a man that makes way through life. For this album is only the beginning of his story and many albums yet to come carrying the story ahead.

Formerly a proud member of Rock Company that helped them on their way to success, the leader of the band decided to badmouth both Rock Company and senior bands in the fold, and started off their own gathering of bands known as the Underground Metal Cycle (UMC) in 2005. This is regarded as ironic and a statement of the obvious, because the rock music industry in Sri Lanka is indeed underground. They organised one gig in 2006, but are believed to have become dysfunctional due to arguments among the bands.

The unit was also succesful in spreading discord among the rock music industry in Sri Lanka, with many fans at each others throats in support of the bands they often incorrectly deemed the best. It is hoped that in future all these bands will reconcile their differences, set narcisism aside and work towards the common goal of promoting rock in Sri Lanka.
