[edit] Songs
- "When the War Is Over"
The CD's lead single was a cover of the Cold Chisel classic, "When the War Is Over". The song was made popular and became Cosima's signature song on the Australian Made theme night of Australian Idol. Cosima's version on Idol was a power ballad much like the original version, though re-worked to emphasise Cosima's diva belting and sustained notes. Cosima commented that the choice of this song for the lead single was a present to fans for their patience and support in her independent release.
The version that appears on the single is a re-worked version of the song, presenting an acoustic-guitar and string driven theme as opposed to the strong guitar and drums of the original. This version was a more Adult Contemporary take on the song and resulted in very limited airplay on mainstream radio stations for this single. Despite this, it still managed to debut at Number One on the charts, proving Cosima's selling power.
- "One Night Without You"
The B-side single for "When the War Is Over" was a preview to Cosima's forthcoming self-titled debut album. The song was written by Diane Warren. While the song was a Latin-themed track and was fairly uptempo with its beats, it remained very much Adult Contemporary. As a result, it was not added to many radio playlists at the time, though featured prominently in the promotion for Cosima's debut album.
[edit] Chart success
- First independent artist to debut at number one on the Australian ARIA Charts (Record holder)
- Best selling independent Australian single for 2004
- Fourth consecutive Australian Idol finalist to debut at number one (after Guy Sebastian, Shannon Noll and Paulini)
- Re-entered the Australian Independent Charts at Number 11 two years after it debuted at number one on the ARIA Charts.
The single debuted at number one on the Australian ARIAnet charts and remained there for 2 weeks. The release stayed in the Top 5 for over a month and was certified Platinum for shipments of over 70,000 units within weeks. There was fierce competition at the time from other strong-sellers such as Missy Higgins, who was prevented from reaching the pole position because of this single.
[edit] Music videos
The clip for "When the War Is Over" was a simple clip with Cosima visiting an old-style home amidst photographs of war. The video climaxed in Cosima singing on top of a cliff with the wind blowing. The clip was panned by critics and media for its "soppy" climax, with one radio broadcaster commenting that it 'came straight out of the 80s'. Fans also complained about the clip, commenting that the lip-synching was not synchronised.
