From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
When a Child is Born (Soleado) was a popular single by Johnny Mathis.
Written by Fred Jay and Di Damicco Siro the song has became something of a Christmas standard with numerous cover versions from artists as diverse as Kenny Rogers, Bing Crosby, The Moody Blues, Cissy Houston, Willie Nelson and many others.
The most successful version is probably the Jack Gold produced version for Johnny Mathis which was his sole number one single in the UK, spending three weeks at the top of the chart in December 1976 and selling 850,000 copies.
[edit] Complete lyrics
- A ray of hope flickers in the sky
- A tiny star lights up way up high
- All across the land, dawns a brand new morn'
- This comes to pass when a child is born.
- A silent wish sails the seven seas
- The winds of change whisper in the trees
- And the walls of doubt.. crumble tossed and torn,
- This comes to pass when a child is born.
- A rosy hue settles all around
- You got to feel you're on solid ground
- For a spell or two no one seems forlorn
- This come to pass when a child is born.
- It's all a dream, and illusion now.
- It must come true some time soon somehow
- All across the land dawns a brand new morn
- This comes to pass.. when a child is born.
