Wheatland is a city in Yuba County, California, United States. The population was 2,275 at the 2000 census.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 2,275 people, 785 households, and 584 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,155.8/km² (3,007.5/mi²). There were 816 housing units at an average density of 414.6/km² (1,078.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 74.64% White, 1.14% African American, 1.45% Native American, 5.19% Asian, 0.13% Pacific Islander, 11.08% from other races, and 6.37% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 21.23% of the population.
There were 785 households out of which 40.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.4% were married couples living together, 16.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.6% were non-families. 21.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.90 and the average family size was 3.37.
In the city the population was spread out with 32.9% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 26.2% from 25 to 44, 18.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 93.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $34,861, and the median income for a family was $39,375. Males had a median income of $32,656 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,889. About 15.8% of families and 19.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 27.5% of those under age 18 and 6.6% of those age 65 or over.

Four annual events in Wheatland are the Pet Parade, the Strawberry Festival, the 4th of July Fireman's Picnic, and the Christmas Tree Lighting. The Pet Parade, held the first Saturday in May, features children and adults and their pets. Common pets include dogs, cats, horses, reptiles, and amphibians. The Strawberry Festival is the third weekend in May and features food and drinks made from the local strawberries crop. The 4th of July Fireman's Picnic is the primary fund raising event for Wheatland's volunteer fire department. Activities at the picnic include barbecue, raffle, and bingo. The Christmas Tree Lighting, sponsored by the Wheatland Lions Club, is held the first Saturday in December. Hot cider, music, caroling, and a visit by Santa lead up to the lighting ceremony of the community Christmas tree.

Nearby attractions include the Sleep Train Amphitheatre, Camp Far West Lake, Beale Falls, and Beale Air Force Base. Wheatland's graduating high school class paint the number of their year on Spenceville Road every year. This tradition goes back to the 60's or 70's. This painting is visible when traveling from Wheatland to Beale Air Force Base.
