From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There are three works in the history of Russian radical socialism called 'What Is To Be Done?'.
The first, a novel with strong didactic elements was written by Nikolai Chernyshevsky in 1863. This is referenced at What Is To Be Done? (novel by Chernyshevsky).
The book rapidly became a classic in the underground socialist circles of late Imperial Russia, and in 1902 Lenin borrowed the title for a political pamphlet of his own. This book is referenced at What Is To Be Done?.
The title was also used by Tolstoy, see What Is To Be Done? (Tolstoy).
