What If (Creed song)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"What If" was the second single from Creed's 1999 album Human Clay, and was the sixth consecutive #1 hit for the band.

In this song, Scott Stapp sings about those who oppress the band with their words and hatred. He seems to be referring to the media and critics who lashed out at Creed, and asks what they would do if faced with a similar situation.

The song was used in the 2000 movie Scream 3, for which Creed helped to produce the soundtrack. The music video portrayed Creed band members being killed by the infamous Ghostface character from the Scream films, and features actor David Arquette.

According to guitarist Mark Tremonti, the intro was inspired by both "Paint It Black" from The Rolling Stones and the The Legend of Zelda series of Nintendo video games.

In 2006, Chris Daughtry performed this on American Idol.
