What's Up (song)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

What's Up is a 1993 single by the band 4 Non Blondes. The song received considerable radio play; it reached number fourteen on the Billboard Hot 100 and went gold, but peaked higher in Europe, reaching number one in Germany and number two in the United Kingdom. It was included on 4 Non Blondes' album Bigger, Better, Faster, More!.

The song was remixed by DJ Miko in 1994 and by the Cover Girls in early 1995.

The song is covered by comedy-rock duo R.O.Y. at live performances. It is also currently being performed by Pink on the UK tour, and has been received well by fans.

On VH1's list of the "most awesomely bad songs ever" (compiled with Blender magazine), this song ranked #40.

Despite the title, the song does not contain the phrase "what's up", but has "what's goin' on" in the refrain. The title "What's Up" was used possibly to avoid confusion with Marvin Gaye's song "What's Goin' On".

[edit] In the media

  • DJ Miko's remix was dubbed into Jock Jams volume 2.
  • Carl Barat, frontman of the band Dirty Pretty Things, called it, along with The Ballad Of Bilbo Baggins, the worst song he has ever heard.
