Talk:Weyard

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Do we need plot details from TLA? Seems unnecessary to me. 205.250.187.6 06:43, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm going to have this page fully rewritten along with the Psynergy page, just like I've been editing the three main Golden Sun pages the past couple months, so I think everything will end up fine. Erik the Appreciator 18:06, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
I'll help with anything if you need it. All I've been doing on Wikipedia lately is vandal fighting and I need a break from that. Oh, and anyone else think we need a map of Weyard on this page? Seems a bit weird without one. I'll look around for some, check the copyright mumbo jumbo, etc. -- Steel 19:59, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Well, the comment I posted above at April 27 was right before I gave the huge rewrites to both pages, so I'm not sure how much can be improved on the article here (but I'm always open to suggestions). As for the map, the images on the Google search seem to reveal either map images that are in Japanese or are of rather low quality, so I'm planning to take the map I have and scan it into a JPG file, and have it uploaded by the end of a week for now. If anyone else has these resources and think they can do it before I do, go right head! Erik the Appreciator 20:22, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Gah, I should really pay more attention to dates... -- Steel 20:38, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
The current map on the page is currently considered a "placeholder" for what should be a properly scanned, uploaded, and copyrighted English version, which I aim to have taken care of shortly. Just for everyone's information... ^_^ Erik the Appreciator 19:34, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Moon?

"The Moon that floats far above the surface of Weyard is actually the floating city of Anemos that formerly was situated in the center of Atteka next to the modern-day settlement of Contigo. Only a few people on Weyard know that the Moon is actually a floating city"

Wtf? in all the time ive played this game, i dont remember ever hearing about a moon. then again, its been 3 years since ive played. can someone tell me where in either game a moon is mentioned? Supermariorobot 00:42, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

With pleasure... Basically in Contigo, information about the Anemos Clan, Anemos City, the Moon, and the giant crater next to the city (not to mention Ivan and Hama's Anemos Heritage) can be acquired by talking to and mind-reading all the people in Contigo, both before and after all the stuff at Jupiter Lighthouse. In fact, you can go to Contigo and Mind-Read the old man to the right of the circular teleport and above the two kids running around the stump, and here's what he'll think:
"The city of the Anemos rose up into the sky and became what we call the Moon."
That's just one piece of evidence. To see all the other details yourself, you might need to start a new game file and scour the area the next (first) time you enter the city. ^_^ Erik the Appreciator 01:14, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
Cool, Im glad someone could clear that up, so I wouldn't have to play through the whole game again.... So, a city in the sky? I can't beleive no info on GS3 has been released yet... Supermariorobot 00:42, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
Well, pretty much all the GS3 speculation you can find at the GameFAQS message board for The Lost Age, among other forums, revolves around these details. And it's true that no info about any GS3 has ever come about all these years. The only thing that's been said was that Camelot Software Planning had been working on a console RPG for Wii for a while now, with one IGN source or something giving it the tentative title "Golden Sun Wii" (though I don't remember any of these sources). [edit] Hesperia and Atteka

OK, I see that real-world equivalents to the continents of Weyard were added. What about Hesperia and Atteka? --Evice 21:47, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Hesperia would probably be equalvent to North America with it's largely Native American influence. Atteka is harder, culturally. Contigio is preety generic. The closest I can even guess would be South American, at least for the Amneos since their markings near the ruins are remiscent of Nazca Drawings , but that's speculation at best. --Eldarone 03:07, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
I was thinking about them being based on the Americas, but I wasn't sure. --Evice 23:25, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
I think it would be worth noting the shape equivalency of the continents, as well as the cultural equivalency. For instance, the Angara-Gondowan landmass is more similar in shape to the North/South America landmass, with the Florida- and Brazil-equivalent areas fused together, locking the Karagol Sea (the Caribbean Sea), away from the Eastern Sea. I also agree that Contigo would probably be most closely related to Central/South America, culturally.~e.o.t.d~ 09:25, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
As an addendum, it might also be a good idea to state name (or cultural) equivalency in more individual cities and other places, as was done for Air's Rock/Ayers Rock. For example, Madra/Madrid, Suhalla/Sahara Desert, and Dehkan/Deccan Plateau, among others. Many of the locations in the game probably have some kind of second meaning to them, however obscure.~e.o.t.d~ 09:38, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tolbi

Is Tolbi on Angara or Gondowan? A man in Suhalla says he doesn't trust anyone from Angara since Sheba was kidnapped by Babi, but the Gondowan Cave is north of the river the Gondowan Passage is on. --Evice 23:27, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Some people in Tolbi (mainly Babi's palace) talk about "going to Gondowan" like they aren't already on Gondowan. Does this mean that Tolbi really is technically part of Angara? --Evice 02:47, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
I went to Suhalla again and the man who says he doesn't trust people from Angara doesn't say that anymore. I'm guessing he only says that before Isaac finishes Colosso. --Evice 03:00, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Odd features about the map in the original compared to the one in The Lost Age

I noticed some odd things on the world map in the original game compared to the second one:
1. There is a large island east of Gondowan, southeast of Idejima. I would think that this would be Indra before the wave crashes it into Gondowan and Osenia, but it's a little small. I don't think any continents in The Lost Age other than Hesperia were mentioned at all in the original game, though.
2. There is a huge, inaccessible landmass (presumeably an early incarnation of Hesperia, which was mentioned a few times in the original) west of Angara. I'd say that it's Hesperia, but it's much closer to Angara and Gondowan than Hesperia is in The Lost Age. --Evice 02:56, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

I think these're just unfinished oversights that occured while designing the two games in a row. It seems none of the continents around Angara and Gondowan seen in The Lost Age were finalized when Golden Sun was released. Erik the Appreciator 20:44, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Downsized importance

Many of the towns in the continents "Other Places" sections are actually quite important. Take Yallam. We know enough about Yallam to give it a section under Osenia. Same for Garoh. So, what's up? --DcPimp 02:37, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for not noticing this on my watchlist earlier. Basically, places like Yallam and Garoh are more like locales to pass through during the game than central locations to the storyline like Imil and Lalivero (which are hometowns to playable characters!), and places like Lalivero are emphasized the way they are in the article to tell the unfamiliar reader that that place is more important than anything to be found in the Other Places. The only reason why I would have a place like Loho emphasized is because there you can get a cannon which allows you to go to the last area of Prox and the Mars Lighthouse, and that cannon seems to be a really strong link to Weyard's ancient past. [edit] Spoilers

Seeing as I have had the most important point about the game ruined simply by glancing at the Mt Aleph section, I have put a Spoilers Warning up.

Ugh, god. Sorry to hear that. It's a good call to put the spoiler tag where it is; I should have done that myself long ago when I wrote this page. :( Erik Jensen (I appreciate talk!) 05:03, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Overhaul

Well now, I have stuffed the page with images about Golden Sun locations. The page I used as an inspiration of sorts is Spira (Final Fantasy X). If anyone has any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions about the imagery, do post them here; I'll be glad to receive feedback. ^_^ Erik Jensen (I appreciate talk!) 01:24, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Looks great. My browser actually accepted them all (huzzah!). You may want to put some of them on the left side, though. It'd kinda break it up over there. --Pants of Destiny 02:06, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, another page I looked at was List of Final Fantasy IX locations, which has its images aligned to the right of the page like what I have here on Weyard, and I personally like that because it makes it look more like an orderly compendium of info on a fictional game world. Erik Jensen (I appreciate talk!) 02:14, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
That may be true, but nevertheless, having all the photos on one side makes the page look, oh, I dunno, dull. I realize you're not aiming for beauty here, but it would make the page look a little more encyclopedic in my opinion. Think about it. How many encyclopedias have you seen that didn't have a picture here and another one across from it? --Pants of Destiny 02:38, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, okay. It would certainly help if we had more people here to provide consensus about these things, but actually it turns out you're definitely right in having images arranged in that format. :) What the page really needs now is some major rewriting of the wording itself; I'll have a new version posted soon.
