WETA is a noncommercial, public radio station located in Arlington, VA whose signal (90.9 FM) covers the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The station operates 24-hours-per-day, 365 days-per-year with a news & information format. WETA previously aired classical music along with news, with a total switch to all news programming on February 28, 2006. Principal programming sources are National Public Radio and the BBC. Additional programming from Public Radio International, American Public Media and independent producers are also featured. The overall focus is on "World News."
In the spring and summer of 2006, WETA added two locally-produced programs to its lineup: “Out & About with 90.9” and “The Intersection.” The former program comprises features about the local community and the cultural icons who visit. The latter is a listener call-in program with studio guests and news/information features. “Out & About with 90.9” airs twice weekly—on Saturday and Sunday. “The Intersection” airs every weekday.
WETA, which has the highest effective radiated power of any FM station in the DC Metro area at 75 KW, also operates a satellite station (with duplicate programming) in the Hagerstown, Maryland area on 89.1 FM.
