Westmin
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Westmin (colliquialy) is the name still commonly used by employees and local residents referring to the Zinc/Copper mine at Myra Falls in Strathcona Provincial Park. The name Westmin originates from original company Western Mines, which became Westmin Resources Ltd. For most of the mine's life it was known as "Westmin Resources Ltd, Myra Falls Operations". In 1998 the mine was purchased by Boliden AB, Poor management and low metal prices resulted in the mine losing substantial amounts of money during Boliden's ownership and the mine was sold in 2004 to Breakwater Resources. Today the mine is operated by Breakwater subsidiary "NVI Mining Ltd." and titled "NVI Mining Ltd. Myra Falls Operations" However most employees and virtual all residents of nearby Campbell River still refer to it as Westmin.
