The Western Red Colobus (Piliocolobus) is a species of Old World monkey. It is often hunted by the Common Chimpanzee. In 1994, Western Red Colobus infected many chimpanzees with Ebola virus when they were hunted/eaten by the same chimpanzees. [3]

[edit] Subspecies

This red colobus has three subspecies, including the nominate:[1]

  • Bay Red Colobus, Piliocolobus badius badius
  • Temminck's Red Colobus, Piliocolobus badius temminckii
  • Miss Waldrone's Red Colobus, Piliocolobus badius waldronae

P. b. waldronae is critically endangered, possibly even extinct. The other two subspecies are in danger of extinction.[2]
