Western Keys
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Western Keys is a band from Austin, Texas, led by singer Ben Dickey. Their first CD, Damage, was written in a few weeks and released on The Self-Starter Foundation on 10 September 2002. This EP featured seven songs, categorized as alt-country or indie, most of which focus on relationship troubles (highlighted by Dickey's somewhat whiny singing). Other band members have included John Troutman, Daniel McIntosh, and Leslie Sisson. Most of the songs are wistful and nostalgic, with occasional ear-catchers like, "And we had the best sex ever!" thrown in. Although the CD is only a little over sixteen minutes long, it has been hailed by many reviewers as a sign of better things to come. Britt Daniel of Spoon picked the album as one of his top ten CDs of 2002. Western Keys has been known to cover Danzig's "Going Down to Die" during live performances. Western Keys has toured with Shannon Wright, Crooked Fingers, and Spoon.
