Western Golf Alliance

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Western Golf Alliance is a golf organization founded in 2002 by Brian Gray, Trever Esko, and Peter McGarry. The regional organization is classified as a golf club without real estate by the USGA. It includes members from five western U.S. states - Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, and Arizona - and is divided into nine geographic regions for administrative purposes.

The charter of the Western Golf Alliance states that its three primary purposes are a) to stimulate interest in golf by bringing together a group of golfers desirous of forming a golfing organization, b) to promote and foster among the members a closer bond and fraternity for their joint and mutual benefit, and to promote and conserve the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf as embodied in its ancient and honorable traditions, and c) to provide an authoritative body to govern and conduct club competitions.

The Western Golf Alliance operates several regional golf tournaments and a semi-annual golf championship, called the Western Golf Alliance Open, which takes place in a different location in every even-numbered year. Previous geographic locations for the Western Golf Alliance Open have included Oregon, Bellingham, Washington, and Palm Springs, California.
