Western is an 'L' station on the CTA's Brown Line. It is an elevated station with two side platforms, located in the Lincoln Square neighborhood at 4645–49 North Western Avenue. The adjacent stations are Rockwell, which is located about ⅓ mile to the west, and Damen, about ½ mile to the east. Between Western and Rockwell the line descends and runs on surface level tracks for the rest of the route to Kimball. Western station is also served by the #11 (Lincoln), #49 (Western), and #81 (Lawrence) bus routes.

[edit] History
The station was put into service in 1907 as part of Northwestern Elevated Railroad's Ravenswood line, and has been rebuilt twice since—in the 1920s, and again in 1981[1]. The current station consists of two side platforms, and a central storage line.
[edit] Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project
The Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project aims to allow 8 car trains on the Brown Line by the extension of the platforms at all stations. At the same time all Brown Line stations are being upgraded to meet ADA requirements. Because Western station already meets ADA requirements, it will not be altered much. The platforms will however be extended in 2006 to support 8 rail cars[2].
