West Traverse Township is a township in Emmet County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,448 at the 2000 census.

- Harbor Point is an unincorporated community in a noncontiguous part of the township on a peninsula south of Harbor Springs at . The historic Little Traverse Lighthouse is located at the tip of the Harbor Point peninsula.
- The city of Harbor Springs is located at the south of the township, but is politically independent.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 34.6 km² (13.4 mi²). 34.6 km² (13.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (0.22%) is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 1,448 people, 629 households, and 447 families residing in the township. The population density was 41.9/km² (108.6/mi²). There were 1,093 housing units at an average density of 31.6/km² (82.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the township was 97.65% White, 0.14% African American, 1.52% Native American, 0.07% Asian, and 0.62% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.83% of the population.
There were 629 households out of which 27.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.9% were married couples living together, 4.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.8% were non-families. 26.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.77.
In the township the population was spread out with 21.3% under the age of 18, 4.0% from 18 to 24, 20.7% from 25 to 44, 35.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 47 years. For every 100 females there were 103.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.8 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $64,167, and the median income for a family was $69,327. Males had a median income of $47,045 versus $27,333 for females. The per capita income for the township was $31,136. About 3.3% of families and 4.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.1% of those under age 18 and 1.2% of those age 65 or over.
