West Nicholson
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
West Nicholson is a village in the province of South Matabeleland, Zimbabwe. It is located about halfway between Zimbabwe's second largest city, Bulawayo, and the border town to South Africa, Beitbridge. According to the 1982 Population Census, the village had a population of 1,633. There is a mine and a large beef factory, that turns the local cattle into corned beef and biltong. Also, there is a supermarket, a butcher and a large primary school. The Umzingwane River runs through the town and a railway run past it, but the trains only carry cargo, no passengers. There is a turn-off that leads to a secondary school 12 km further on, the J.Z. Moyo Secondary School for Education with Production. (All as of 1995) Though a rather small town, West Nicholson is a regional center and a stop-over for travellers.
