West Newton, Massachusetts

West Newton is a village of Newton, Massachusetts (right next to Boston).

West Newton is on the edge of Newton, bordered by the town of Waltham, Massachusetts. Its town center, West Newton Square, is home to many local businesses and venues. These include the historic West Newton Cinema, a small theatre that shows independent films. West Newton was home to Nathaniel Hawthorne and Ralph Waldo Emerson in the 1800s. The great public educator Horace Mann lived in West Newton and the Horace Mann Elementary School serves the area.

Isaac Asimov was also a resident of West Newton.

West Newton Square is home to many restaurants ranging from the French bistro Lumiere to Sweet Tomatoes Pizza and Coney Island Ice Cream Cafe. The outstanding Blue Ribbon Bar-B-Q is a local favorite, and attracts fans from far and wide.

West Newton is one of the oldest of the Newton "villages". The West Newton train station is located near a still-standing inn (now small shops) that served as a stagecoach stop.

West Newton is served by the MBTA Commuter Rail and is roughly one mile from the Woodland station on the Green Line "D" Branch. It also has easy access to the Massachusetts Turnpike and Route 128 (Massachusetts)/I-95. The Massachusetts Turnpike (Interstate 90) runs through West Newton.
