West Kensington, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
West Kensington is a neighborhood in the North Philadelphia section of Philadelphia. It is north of Olde Kensington. The Market Frankford El above Front Street forms the line between West Kensington and its bordering neighborhoods to the east (Kensington and Fishtown), although its other boundaries are less well-defined. Historically it had been a heavily Irish-American neighborhood. Today the community is largely populated by Hispanics and African Americans, although gentrification is bringing some more adventurous White Americans, mostly artists, to the area.
While some folks think that Norris Square is located in West Kensington, it is actually located in Olde Kensington, or possibly South Kensington. West Kensington starts where the Market Frankford Line rears northeast at York Street, where Kensington Avenue begins.
