West Indian Girl
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
West Indian Girl is a rock band from Los Angeles, who released their self-titled debut album in August 2004 on Astralwerks. The band's music is influenced from the California coastline where the band resides. The songs have sweeping melodies and haunting harmonies courtesy of the band's two lead vocalists. While the band does have influences of psychedelic bands of the 60's their songs have a clear pop sensibility that makes the music appeal to a wide audience.
The band's name comes from a type of acid that was popular in the early 60s, and their video for "What Are You Afraid Of" has received heavy airplay on MTV2's underground show Subterrenean.
The band recently released "Remix EP," which features remixes of songs on their self-titled debut. They are currently working on their second full-length album, whose title is unknown.
West Indian Girl Is:
Robert James (guitar/vocals), Mariqueen Maandig (vocals), Francis Ten (bass), Nathan Van Hala (Keyboards), and Mark Lewis (Drums).
