[edit] Werdnabot on Huwiki

Hi! I'm Dami talk from the Hungarian Wikipedia, where we don't have any automated solution for archiving. Recently I suggested there that we should have one, and I would like to ask your help to set up a clone of your bot on huwiki. If you would be willing to help, could you please provide the source code for Werdnabot or open an account on the Hungarian WP. Either way your help would be much apreciated. Please answer me on my Hungarian talk page--Dami 17:59, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for your answer (it was especially pleasing that you translated it, though it was really uneccesary). I'll be glad to localise the interface, and maybe a basic help (I am short a bit on free time...). After that if I announce it on the local Village Pump I think your services would be much apreciated. I don't know if you have any other projects, but if you think any of them would be beneficial to other WP communities I would be glad to help in localising them. Please answer me on my Hungarian talk page--Dami 20:04, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
Hi! Thanks, I'll start working on the translations, and hope to finish them by the end of this week. Meanwhile could you give an explanation to [1]'s function (I'm not totally at home with regex, but if I know what it does, I can ask somebody to localise it), and also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Werdnabot/Interface/Boilerplate and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Werdnabot/Archiver/Linkhere seem to be empty pages ::(.--Dami 16:37, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
Hi again! I see now that the linkhere has text in its source.
I'd like to ask you, what is the functions of the Months page, and the abbreviations there, where do they appear?
--Dami 18:21, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I finished translating the pages you sent me, (they're linked to from here: [2]). I didn't translate the boilerplate as the link you gave is to an empty page :(, and also I didn't translate the Timestampsregex, because I think it can be left in English until I see where does it come up.
All that being said, I would like to start working on translating the templates at the top of the userpage (hopefully without breaking your bot's template detection...) and if there are any other help pages about the stuff like <!--werdnabot-noarchive-->, and what to do with unsigned comments etc. And thanks again for the work you put into the internationalisation of your bot --Dami 18:51, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
The only thing that can't be translated is the tags starting with . The rest can be translated. As for the timestampregex, this is a Regular expression for the way timestamps are shown on your wiki.

Hi! I sent you an e-mail, and repeat it here in case you didn't get it: I'm complete with the translation, they are here : [3] , (in the right column), they just need to be moved or copied to the right place. Regards--Dami 21:49, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi again! Could you please give me an update on the Werdnabot situation on huwiki? Thanks--Dami 21:08, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Also I saw on your meta talk page, that there are some new strings to be localised for huwiki. Please don't hesitate to contact me for their translation. Regards--Dami 21:14, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi! I copied all the interface messages under hu:User:Werdnabot in the same place as on the English original. I have placed the template with substitution on my talk page. Please do a test run, and if everythings okay, I'll start propagating it on the Hungarian Village Pump. Thanks for your help--Dami 10:53, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I know your busy Could you please start the bot on huwiki. Currently only I am using the template (hu:User:Werdnabot/Archiver/Linkhere, but if the bot was running I would recommend it to others as well, and I believe it would be a great success.--Dami 17:45, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

WikiThanks

Thank you so much!! Your bot is working. Is it on a shedule now, or was this a test run? Can I start advertising it? Thanks again! Have a nice day.--Dami 15:34, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

I might have been a bit over enthusiastic. Unfortunately somethings wrong with the date recognizing part. The order in Hungarian is reversed: If its using this as a regex:

(\d{4})\.\s([a-záúó]+)\s(\d{1,2})\.,\s(\d{2}):(\d{2})

Then the third is the day as in (26th), the second is the monthname (as in hu:User:Werdnabot/Interface/Months starting from "január" are the month names in order that refer to january, february etc.), the first is the year, and the last two are the hours and minutes followed by "(CET)" or "(CEST)" , the time zone that is not included in this regex.--Dami 15:45, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi! The regex still doesn't seem to work :( Also, for some reason it gets the target page wrong, maybe because there is a space or "_" in it?

  • This was originally the order for your bot:<!--Werdnabot-Archive Age-7 Target-User vita:Bdamokos/Archív/{{CURRENTYEAR}}. {{CURRENTMONTHNAME}}--> (Note the space between the "currentyear." and "currentmonthname") it archived to User vita:Bdamokos/Archív/2006. instead of User vita:Bdamokos/Archív/2006. December
  • So, I changed the configuration, to this: <!--Werdnabot-Archive Age-7 Target-User vita:Bdamokos/Archív/{{CURRENTYEAR}}._{{CURRENTMONTHNAME}}--> (Note the underscore) and it archived to User vita:Bdamokos/Archív/2006. again

Is this a known bug, should I not use spaces in the target? Anyway, the first problem with the regex and dates is more pressing...--Dami 18:28, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Allright, sorry for the previous post, I see the problem now with the target. --Dami 18:30, 27 November 2006 (UTC) Now I don't again :( Please take a look at http://hu.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_vita:Bdamokos&action=edit . Thanks--Dami 18:34, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Problem with bot

I have had the template on my talk page for a while and found some initial errors I made (keeping the parenthesis from the how to page) but now my template is exactly the same as your except that I changed the user name and target. Despite this, Werdnabot still doesn't archive. I'd appreciate any help. I'm going to try setting it the date setting to 1 day and see if anything happens. Gdo01 07:00, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes. Werdnabot has not run since 4 December 2006. See its contributions at Special:Contributions/Werdnabot. So your correction to your invokation of Werdnabot was done after its last run. So there may no longer be any problem with your page, just a problem with the bot itself. JRSpriggs 08:46, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] archiving too quick

I recently had a section archived by the bot because I had not responded quickly enough, which is fine; the problem was when I brought the section back from the archive page and added a comment it moved it back to archive promptly. [4] I assume it was something to do with me not removing the tags the bot automatically adds, but this still doesn't seem quite correct to me. Vicarious 08:23, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Accolades

Werdna, congrats on turning out great work with the automatic edit summaries. It makes vandal-fighting easier and is going to put more edit summaries on everyone's watchlists. I definitely appreciate it.--Kchase T 04:01, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User talk Brookie

Hi Brookie here - I have added the tag for the bot to do my archiving - but it it isn't! Have I set it up correctly ? Many thanks Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! (Whisper...) 07:47, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

As noted above (see "Problem with bot"), Werdnabot has not archived anyone's pages since 4 December 2006. So you will just have to wait until Werdna deigns to fix it, or archive manually. You cannot conclude that there is anything wrong with your Werdnabot invokation until you have seen it run an archiving job since you set up your page and it misses you. JRSpriggs 08:22, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
It appears that Werdna has been using the bot for some other activities in the last week. Such as eliminating multiple redirects. JRSpriggs 08:25, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Yes, it's down

For those of you who haven't realised, Werdnabot is down. The library it depends on has broken due to MediaWiki software changes. I haven't the time to fix it at the moment. If you wish to help out, you can check out my toolserver svn repository (m:Toolserver); and submit a patch. If it works, you seriously rock. — Werdna talk criticism 12:44, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help please, werdna is not archiving my talk page

User talk:Alan.ca is not gettin archived, can you advise please. Alan.ca 22:55, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Fixed, I think. JRSpriggs 04:40, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Werdnabot is changing ALL ampersands in any file it touches to ampersand-"amp"-semicolon

Werdnabot is changing ALL ampersands in any file it touches to ampersand-"amp"-semicolon. For example, ampersand-"pi"-semicolon is changed to ampersand-"amp"-semicolon-"pi"-semicolon which does not have the same effect when processed by wiki-software. Please fix this MAJOR bug in Werdnabot. JRSpriggs 10:12, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Fixed. — Werdna talk criticism 02:23, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ampersand problem

Well, apparently the patch still has a few bugs in it. There appears to be an encoding problem with WWW::Mechanize that's changing certain characters to their encoded equivalents, which aren't processed by MediaWiki. I'll have to check it out as soon as I can get to my home system. The issue was also discussed on Werdnabot's talk page. Shadow1 (talk) 13:34, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome back Werdna bot

Ah, it's good to have a bot running around after me again. Thanks. Rich Farmbrough, 09:29 14 December 2006 (GMT).

[edit] Werdnabot dispatch

Hey Werdna, I was looking over Werdnabot's wiki and I noticed that you're using the old style of the dispatch page. Please note that specifying the has_query and has_filepath variables will cause Werdnabot to fail when it reads the dispatch page, unless you've gone back to the old code since I last checked. The current Werdnabot code should only require the wiki host, the path, the username, and the liason, such as en.wikipedia.org w Werdnabot Werdna. Shadow1 (talk) 12:49, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Broken links

Hi, Werdna! I hope you're enjoying your holiday.

I just wanted to report something. Your 'bot has been archiving the mathtalk page for quite a while now. And it generally works just great.

Today I was reading something over here that had a link into the mathtalk page. The link (internal, with a #) was broken. So I patched it up by inserting a "/Archive16" string into the existing uri. It wasn't too hard for me to do ... I just went off the date stamp on the talk page I was reading to find the right archive file.

Anyway, I see you're taking the 'bot out into the wide world of Wikipedia. Do you think you could find time to fix this small problem? Couldn't the 'bot use the "what links here" tool somehow, and fix all those links/anchor tags to point to the archived material in its new location? That would probably save a lot of people quite a few headaches down the road sometime.

Thanks for listening. Merry Christmas!  ;^> DavidCBryant 18:49, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Edit summaries

Hi there; I have failed to find an answer to my comment, suggesting that the maximum length of an automated edit summary should be such that it is contained in no more than two lines of text, including the name of the article. You earlier said that this was just a matter of tweaking a number in a programme. Any further thoughts?--Anthony.bradbury 00:53, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
