Wellington Free Ambulance
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wellington Free Ambulance is an Incorporated Society who are the primary provider of Ambulance Services in the city of Wellington, New Zealand and its immediate surrounds.
Wellington Free Ambulance (or WFA as it is often known) was started in 1927 and is the only recognised free Ambulance service serving a major New Zealand city. They are a modern, fully-equipped service, equipped to provide rescue, emergency, life-support and pre-hospital care using a combination of paid and volunteer staff.
WFA operate as a not-for-profit service provider. Unlike St. John Ambulance, who provide emergency medical response for most of New Zealand outside of Wellington, they do not also provide first aid personnel for 'events' (sports events, concerts, etc). They do however work in conjunction with St John Central Region Event Services to provide coverage to events in the Greater Wellington Area over-and-above their role as emergency responders.
