Wellington Cup
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Wellington Cup is a Group I horse race in New Zealand for thoroughbred racehorses. It is held at Trentham by the Wellington Racing Club.
It is run over 3200 meters, earlier it was two miles, a slightly longer distance. It is held in late January each year at Trentham racecourse just outside Wellington New Zealand. It is a grueling race, and the record is still held by the winner of the 1970 Wellington Cup, namely Il Tempo, who covered the two miles in 3 minutes 16.2s.
