Wellingborough Town 2004 F.C. are a football club based in Wellingborough, England. They were established in 2005. For the 2006/07 season, they are members of the United Counties Football League Premier Division.
[edit] Original club
The original Wellingborough club was formed in 1867 and became founder members of the Leicestershire & Northants League in 1894. The following season they joined the Midland League.
In 1899-00 the club were runners-up in the Midland League before joining the Southern League in 1901. Around this time they moved to their current ground at the Dog & Duck, London Road, Wellingborough.
In 1905 the Club changed its name to Wellingborough Redwell but resigned at the end of the season after finishing bottom of Division One. They retained the Redwell name until they reverted back to their former name of Wellingborough Town FC after World War I. Records from the inter-war years are scarce but it is known that the club joined the United Counties League in 1946 and were champions in 1963 and 1965, after which they successfully applied to join the Metropolitan League in 1968. In 1970 they were league champions and stepped up to the West Midlands Regional League Premier Division, from which they rejoined the Southern League in Division One North in 1971-72. Wellingborough remained in what later became known as the Southern League Midland Division until 1988-89 when they were relegated back to the United Counties League.
The club struggled throughout the next thirteen seasons until in 2001-02 they folded and resigned from the League.
[edit] New club
A new Wellingborough Town 2004 F.C. was formed in 2004 and gained entry to the United Counties League in 2005. In their very first season in the league they finished as runners-up and were promoted to the Premier Division.
