Welcome Home (Coheed and Cambria)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Welcome Home" is a song by the progressive rock band Coheed and Cambria. It is the third track on the album, Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness. The song was the second single on the album, and was made into a music video. The song tells of the hostility in The Writer and Miss Erica Court's relationship in the story of Coheed and Cambria.
[edit] Instrumentation
The song features stringed instruments during the verses and outro. In addition to the bass and drums, there are two electrical guitars with distortion (one of which is Claudio's double-neck Gibson SG), a synth guitar added in after recording, and the acoustic guitar heard in the introduction and the chorus. The verses of the song sound similar only in the first few bars to Led Zepplin's "Kashmir", featuring a rolling beat and a string and guitar driven chord progression.
The introduction bears a striking rememblance to the theme song from Tetris.
[edit] Music video
The music video opens with a red liquid resembling blood forming the band's iconic symbol, the Keywork, during the opening acoustic guitar solo. As the other instruments kick in, the band is shown playing on a metallic silver stage, as pictures rise out of the ground around them. The pictures then begin to play scenes from the storyline. The video alternates between the storyline and the band's performance throughout the rest of the video. It should be noted that the video is nearly two minutes shorter than the album version of the song.
