Template talk:Welcome Email

so, basically you've invented your own blocking criteria and inserted it into namespace?--205.188.116.72 06:57, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Not helpful
This template isn't helping anyone to hide their email address since their requests to change name (and there are far too many of these caused by this template) are all archived on Wikipedia:Changing username in plain text making it easier to grab the addresses than if they were just in the page histories which aren't indexed. They're also saved in the rename log and everyone has a talk page with their email address in it that was created by someone adding {{Welcome Email}}. The message should be moved to the login screen and users who choose to ignore it shouldn't be expected to change name. Angela. 19:50, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- It can be somewhat helpful once enough times passes. I suppose what would really be helpfull is a heavy bold comment warning about email adress names at special:createaccount.Voice-of-All 20:05, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- A friend at school created an account today, on my suggestion, and in fact there is a warning to that effect...it's in bold and red. Also agree with Angela on her point. — Gary Kirk | talk! 20:18, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- OK, I was wondering if this already existed or not. In that case, then this template should be deprecated.Voice-of-All 20:21, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- "Do not use an e-mail address as your username" - that's what it says, and repeats. I think the template should just be edited removing the advice to change username and instead just create a new account. Maybe it should say to go to Special:Userlogin while logged in so the log says (New Name) created by (Email Address Username); that way they can say "hey look, this was my previous account". Of course if they're concerned with privacy maybe not, but then they shouldn't have created a username as their email address. — Gary Kirk | talk! 20:42, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
