Wedge's Gamble (1996) is the second novel in the Star Wars: X-wing series. It was written by Michael A. Stackpole.

Rogue Squadron is on a covert intelligence mission to Coruscant in preparation for an attack against the Imperial capital world by the Rebel Alliance. As they attempt to find a way to destroy Coruscant's deflector shields, the Imperial leader, Ysanne Isard, is developing a devastating virus called the Krytos virus that will eventually kick off the Bacta War.

Rogue Squadron splits up into three different groups in an attempt to find a way to lower the shields without compromising the entire squadron if one person is captured. Eventually, after many failures and the capture of one member of Rogue Squadron, the entire group comes together to formulate a plan to lower Coruscant's shields so that the Rebel fleet may launch its invasion.

During the mission, Rogue Squadron manages to take over an orbital mirror control station and boil a reservoir, creating a massive thunderstorm that knocks out Coruscant's shield and allows the Rebel attack on the planet to commence.

During the attack, Corran Horn's Z-95 Headhunter is shot down, and Corran is captured. He is sent to Lusankya, a Super Star Destroyer and secret Imperial prison. Although technically missing in action, Corran is suspected dead by his squadronmates.
