Weather warfare
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Weather warfare would be the use of weather modification techniques for military purposes.
Despite a certain degree of concern [1] and interest from the military [2], current military weather modification appears to be limited to fog and cloud modification.. to conceal.. assets from surveillance or improve landing visibility at airfields, but artificial weather technologies do not currently exist [3].
The Convention on the Prohibition of Military or Any Other Hostile Use of Environmental Modification Techniques (Geneva: 18 May 1977, Entered into force: 5 October 1978) prohibits widespread, long-lasting or severe effects as the means of destruction, damage or injury [4]. However it has been argued that this permits local, non-permanent changes [5].
