Weald Country Park
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Weald Country Park is a 500 acre (2 km²) country park in the borough of Brentwood in the English county of Essex. It is on the north east fringe of metropolitan London. The park covers 500 acres (2 km²) and has been established for 700 years. The current layout is largely the result of landscaping in the 18th century. It is managed by Essex County Council.
The park will be the venue for the mountain biking events at the 2012 Summer Olympics. However, there is a great deal of worry regarding the transformation of the park in order to cater for the games. The erection of new car parks, the cycle track itself, spectator stands, basic infrastructure for the competitors such as changing rooms, could prove to be very damaging to the parkland. Furthermore, much of the proposed access to the site during the training and actual event period will be via narrow country lanes not designed to cater for significant volumes of traffic (reference 2012 committee website http://www.london2012.com/NR/rdonlyres/D5D67540-BD6D-415D-951B-7F4ABCEEA1B6/0/TPchapter07part6.pdf).
