Players form a list of 10 well-known people that they believe will die within one year of the start of the pool. When a person dies, the player(s) who picked him/her receive anywhere from six to ten points based on the person's age. At the end of the game, the player with the highest score is declared the winner. In the event of a tie, see the Awards section. All picks must be notable enough to at least have an article in Wikipedia. The 2006 pool began on March 31, 2006 and will last until midnight on March 31, 2007. Our 19 teams have selected a total of 90 celebrities - with an average age of approximately 75.8 years. So far, 12 of those celebrities have died, giving a death percentage of 13.33%.

• December 11, 2006 - After nearly two months of inactivity, the world's oldest verified person, Elizabeth Bolden, has died at age 116, just months after claming the title after the death of Maria Esther de Capovilla, who was also selected by some teams here. One player, RMHED, picked Bolden, adding six points to their score, and putting them in 5th place. For more on Bolden's death, see here.

• October 17, 2006 - Terminal cancer sufferer and EastEnders star Ross Davidson dies at age 57. Davidson announced his disease publically 15 months ago after doctors gave him 18 months to live. This is the biggest hit so far here at the WDP. Since his illness was highly publicized at the Deathlist, Davidson became the second most picked celeb, with 10 teams selecting him. Phantom, Football Fan, Canadian Paul, Obiskobilob, Nice Tits, Slave to the Grave, Windsor the Troll, Handrejka, Brinsworth House Baiter, JD all receive 8 points on account of his youthful age. While a total of 80 points is added to the scoreboard, Davidson's death brings no change to the top 3 teams as they all had a hit with him. The tie for first place still remains with Canadian Paul and Slave to the Grave now tied at 31 points. Football Fan still hangs on to 2nd with 30 points. Davidson's death was the first hit of the game for 3 late-blooming teams:Handrejka, Phantom, and Brinsworth House Baiter. • September 30, 2006 - The pool reached the halfway mark, the number of hits at that point can be expected to increase by approximately 175% through the next 6 months until the end of the pool on March 31, 2007.
