We've Got Lots In Common

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"We've Got Lots In Common" is a song from Charlotte's Web the 1973 Hanna Barbera animtion musical. The film was released by Paramount Pictures. The song is written by Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman.

Wilbur has just met the new goslings with the rest of the farm. One is named Geoffrey and he is very tiny, the runt, just like Wilbur was. Wilbur tell Geoffrey that he used to be very tiny too, just like him. Geoffrey finds it hard to believe at first, but then he tells Wilbur he wants to be just like him then! Wilbur tells him "Why Not?" Then he starts to explain to Geoffrey just because they are different on the outside doesn't mean they are different on the inside... They're both good on the inside no matter what their outsides look like... So the barnyard animals sing a song to convey what Wilbur is saying...

WILBUR:
Oh, we've got lots in common where it really counts
Where it really counts, we've got large amounts
What we look like doesn't count an ounce
We've got lots in common where it really counts

WILBUR:
You've got feathers, I've got skin, but both our outsides :hold us in

COW:
I've got hooves, you've got webbed feet, but we both stand up to eat!

CHORUS:
'Cause we've got lots in common where it really counts
Where it really counts, we've got large amounts
What we look like doesn't count an ounce
We've got lots in common where it really counts

WILBUR:
You've got a beak, and I've a snout, but the both of us can sniff about

HORSE:
You say quack, and I'll say neigh, but we're talking either way!

CHORUS:
'Cause we've got lots in common where it really counts
Where it really counts, we've got large amounts
What we look like doesn't count an ounce
We've got lots in common where it really counts

CHARLOTTE:
You're born to swim, and me to spin, but we both love this world we're in
We share the sun, the earth, the sky, and that's the reason why...

CHORUS:
We've all got lots in common where it really counts
Where it really counts, we've got large amounts
What we look like doesn't count an ounce
We've got lots in common where it really counts

[edit] Song Placement

  • The song is sung by Wilbur to the new gosling, Geoffrey who, like Wilbur is a runt. Wilbur passes on one of the lessons which Charlotte has taught him. The other barnyard animals sing along as well.

[edit] Trivia

  • In the promotional trailer for distributors a rare piece of footage of the Sherman Brothers singing "We've Got Lots In Common" can be seen. In the footage, Richard Sherman plays piano while Robert Sherman stands over his brother's shoulder and sings along. The song was shot in an unnamed recording studio in Los Angeles in 1972.
