WBGT-CA is the MyNetworkTV affiliate for Rochester, New York. It broadcasts on UHF channel 40; the "18" in its branding represents its cable slot on Time Warner systems.

As a class-A station, it operates at a low power, and does not cover the entire DMA. As a result, WBGT's programming is relayed on W26BZ in Victor to serve the eastern part of the market. In addition to MyNetworkTV programming, the station produces its own local programming and has local sports coverage.

[edit] History

WBGT began operations in February 1998. In its first ten months, the station was an independent, as it did not pick up the UPN affiliation until November of that year. The Victor translator was added in 1999, and by 2001 Time Warner had added it to its lineup on area cable systems on Channel 18.

WBGT became Rochester's MyNetworkTV affiliate on September 5, 2006, which became necessary due to the UPN and The WB shutting operations. The CW, which retained programming from the two networks, affiliated with WRWB-TV (now CW-WHAM).
