Wayne Township, Auglaize County, Ohio

Wayne Township is one of fourteen townships of Auglaize County, Ohio. It is in the northeastern part of the county and includes the village of Waynesfield as well as the part of the hamlet of Holden. Census figures place the population at 1,648 up from 1,591 in 1990. 831 of those reside in the village of Waynesfield, with the remaining 817 in the remainder of the township
Union Township is bordered on the north by Auglaize Township in Allen County; on the west by Union Township; on the south by Goshen Township; and on the east by Roundhead Township in Hardin County. The village of Waynesfield remains within the township.
The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township clerk, who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the clerkship or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees.
The Waynesfield-Goshen Local School District serves the majority of the township, with a small portion in the southeast served by the Upper Scioto Valley Local School District.
The most of the township is served by the Waynesfield (45896) post office, with two small sections served by the Wapakoneta (45895) post office and the Harrod (45850) post office.
