Template talk:Waybackref
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Empty syntax
{{Waybackref |url= |title= |work= |date= }}
or
{{Waybackref|url= |title= |work= |date= }}
[edit] Notes
- Work: suggest that this be the original URL bracketed with "nowiki" tags to prevent production of second external link on the line
- Date: this is not automatically linked
- See Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Waybackref for examples of use
- See Wikipedia:Dead external links for cases where application of this template might be of use
[edit] Discussion of merging with {{Cite web}}
A proposed revision to {{cite web}} has been composed and has received positive support from a small number of editors (me among them). It would be useful for you who monitor this page to visit Template talk:Cite web#Considering merger with 'waybackref' template and express support or opposition to this proposal. An outcome of the proposal will likely be deprecation of {{waybackref}} in favor of the revised {{cite web}}. Regards, User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 00:49, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
The {{cite web}} template was updated on 2006-06-23 as described on the talk page. For those interested in converting to {{cite web}}, the technique is simply this:
{{Waybackref |url=URL |title=title |work=work |date=date}}
becomes
{{cite web |url=work |title=title |archiveurl=URL |archivedate=archival_date |date=date}}
You'll have to figure out when the archive copy was made, but that's all the heavy lifting. RossPatterson 18:45, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
