Watskeburt

Watskeburt is a summer 2005 song by the hip hop music group De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig from Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
The beat of Watskeburt was made at the end of 2004, by Bas Bron, the group's producer. The lyrics were written by Vieze Fur en P. Fabergé, even though the expression 'Watskeburt' was thought up by Dutch rapper Heist Rockah. At first, the song wasn't very successful, until several radiostations picked up the song. On May 16, 2005 it was released and quickly became a hit song.
The song has been made into several parodies. Waarsemebird and Opkeplurt are just a few. There were also parodies in dialect, including a Frisian and a Brabantian version.
It was very popular in the Netherlands and in Belgium. The single was also released in England. The song can be downloaded for free on the group's site [www.dejeugdvantegenwoordig.com].
There is a remix with quotes by Belgian Walloon politician Elio di Rupo. It can be downloaded on the Studio Brussel site.
The British DJ Pete Tong played this song in his radioshow on January 23th, and after that, the management of 'De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig' decided to release this song in the UK and Germany (where it is called 'Was Passiert'). It will be the first Dutch song that is - not translated - released in England. Watskeburt is Dutch slang for "What's up?"
