Watkins, Colorado
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Watkins is an unincorporated community in Adams County and Arapahoe County of the State of Colorado. Long an unincorporated community, the Town of Watkins was incorporated on June 15, 2004, and voted to dissolve on November 7, 2006. As such, 2000 Census data is not available for the community, which has approximately 1,700 residents. The incorporation was an effort to avoid annexation by City of Aurora, which surrounds the town on three sides. However, on November 7, 2006, the town voted to revert to being an unincorporated community by a margin of 308-184. Many of the residents voted against what they thought was the town being dissolved. Instead their vote was to dissolve the town. The Town is involved in trying to build the First Park in Adams County and the Watkins Historical Preservation Society is co-operating with the town on some historical buildings for installation in the park as well.
