Waterford, Virginia

Waterford is an unincorporated village in Loudoun County, Virginia located along Catoctin Creek. Waterford is located in the Loudoun Valley seven miles northwest of Leesburg and 47 miles northwest of Washington, D.C. Waterford was established around 1732 by Amos Janney, a Pennsylvania Quaker. It was named after the town of Waterford, in Ireland, where some of its founders had once lived before immigrating to the United States. Before the American Civil War, it was the second most populous community in Loudoun County after Leesburg. Waterford is a National Historic Landmark and is listed as a National Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places.
