[edit] Plot summary

Friday night 10:46 PM - the gang is painting a pot leaf on the water tower. However upon finishing it it looks like a hand giving the finger. Hyde tells Kelso to paint a little more but he falls off the water tower and breaks his arm. The gang goes to Eric's home because his mom is a nurse, because going to a hospital would risk Kelso's dad finding out what they were doing. Eric goes up to wake her up and finds his parents in the middle of having sex. He then tells everyone to leave and they take Kelso to the hospital. At the hospital after everyone leaves and Jackie convinces Kelso that Hyde caused him to fall and didn't apologize so he isn't a good friend. Eric has a horrible night trying to sleep because he can't get the image of his parents doing it out of his head. He wakes up the next morning clearly out of it saying he overslept and needs to go to school when it's Sunday. This and other behaviour as described in a pamphlet Kitty was reading "Is Jonny High?" lead Red and Kitty to think he must be on drugs. A Circle at the dinner table scares Eric even more when he suddenly "sees" his parents naked, with Kitty eating a hotdog.

The next day Eric tells Laurie after she asks him what is wrong with him and she acts very compassionate, for once, to him telling him how she learned what he saw can be traumatic. Then while parked Donna starts to play with his hair and Eric tells her to stop, which afterwards he tells her that he saw his parents having sex. Donna then tells him she saw her parents doing it outside on a hammock when she was 12, which made Eric feel better because what Donna saw was worse and it doesn't bother her as much anymore.

Kelso finally comes home in a sling and asks Hyde for an apology for not liking his artwork and not respecting his feelings, using Jackie's words. Hyde tells him it wasn't his fault and brings up a time Kelso's dog bit him on the ass and that he laughed at him which leads Kelso to understand that him laughing didn't mean he wasn't acting like a friend. Finally Eric's parents confront him asking him if he's on drugs and not being able to get the words out he says he is, afterwhich Laurie speaks up saying he saw them having sex and Eric decides to tell them that now he's OK with it. Fez then tries to fix the water tower picture but falls off all alone.

[edit] Trivia

  • This episode, along with the remaining season 1 episodes following it, were first broadcast over the summer of 1999. This was due to the show being put on hiatus in the spring due to several factors: the network's promotion of the new animated shows Futurama and Family Guy, and X-Files creator Chris Carter's rumored complaints about his show's lower numbers, which he perceived to be because That 70s Show was not as good of a lead-in as previous shows had been.
  • As part of the continuity for the series, the pot leaf remains painted on the water tower for the remainder of the show's run.
  • This is the first time a member of the gang is shown falling off the water tower. This would become a running gag throughout the rest of the series.
