The Wastek or "Huastec" language is a Mexican maya language spoken by the Huastecs living in rural areas of San Luis Potosí and northern Vera Cruz. It is a member of the family of Mayan languages, connected to and Maya peoples further south in Mexico and Central America. As of the late 20th century the Huastec population in Mexico was approximately 80,000 people.
