Washington Preparatory High School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

George Washington Preparatory High School is a secondary school in Los Angeles, California that is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District. It was founded in 1926.

The mascot is the General, an obvious reference to the school's namesake George Washington. The school colors are red and blue.

Washington has been notorious for its gang violence which is largely due in part to its proximity to various rival gangs. It was the location for a 1987 TV movie entitled Hard Lessons depicting Denzel Washington as the new principal set on cleaning the high school and ridding it of gang violence, drugs and restoring educational values to the school.
