Washington Channel
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Washington Channel parallels the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. It is about three miles long and joins the Anacostia River near Hains Point at its south end to connect to the Potomac River. The north end gets outflow from the Tidal Basin. The channel is located between Washington, D.C. (southwest) on the east side and East Potomac Park on the west side. The actual channel depth ranges from 20 to 27 feet. The east bank can get as shallow as two feet, while the west bank drops to 15+ feet immediately offshore.
The Washington Channel is home to Washington Marina and the Maine Avenue Fish Market. James Creek Marina is located at the south end of the Washington Channel, where it merges with the Anacostia River. Several restaurants and inns are located on the east bank of the Washington Channel as well as the Women's Titanic Memorial.
