Washim (also Basum) is a city and a municipal council in Washim district in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

Washim is a newly formed district and includes the tehsils Risod, Malegaon (Jahagir), Mangrulpir,Karanja and the tribal Manora.

Washim which was also known as Vatsagulma was the seat of power during Vakataka dynasty.
