WASO was a very conservative Talk outlet serving the New Orleans area. The station, which is owned by America First Communications, operates at 730 kHz with 250 W-Daytime/25 W-Nighttime power and is licensed to Covington, Louisiana.

The station was forced off the air in 2005 and is now being used for emergency services for the time being.

[edit] History

WASO, whose call letters stand for "Where America Speaks Out", was founded in the mid-1990s by Robert Namer, an extremist conservative talker who launched the station after he left WTIX AM due to the negative response he got from listeners who blame him for ruining the heritage station during its early days as a Talker in the 1990s.

In 2005 Namer lost his FCC license and the station was taken off the air by the Federal Trade Commission for non-payment of a legal judgement. On September 2, 2005 it was bought back on the air through executive emergency powers by the president of St. Tammany Parish, Kevin Davis, to assist in getting information and relaying messages to its residents and services in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
