Warwick Mall

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Warwick Mall was built in 1970/1971 on RI 2 in Warwick, Rhode Island on the northside of rt. 295 near the junction of Rt. 95 and was the 2nd shopping mall built in warwick and across the river from its rival the Rhode Island Mall. the approximately 1,000,000 square foot mall housed 70 to 90 stores and for anchors it had a 309,000 square foot Jordan Marsh, a 135,000 square foot Filene's and JC Penny. a 90,000 square foot two level Caldor opened in 1984. There was not much overlap between the mall and its rival the rhode island mall. This mall has managed to stay strong. but the mall got a renovation in the 1990s and many stores from the rhode island mall moved into this mall. Jordan Marsh became Macy's in 1996. Filene's gained 65,000 square feet in the 1990s. Caldor closed in 1999 and was replaced by Old Navy, the largest one in the nation as I have heard. Macy's relocated from the large 309,000 square foot store that was Jordan Marsh in Spring 2006 and moved into the 185,000 square foot Filene's. The old Macy's/Jordan Marsh location remains vacant now. This mall has been able to compete effectivally with the large and newer Providence Place, but recently providence place mall now has Macy's (formerly Filene's) and J.C. Penney, which Warwick had that Providence did not have.

The mall also has Disney Store, fye and used to have KB Toys. The mall has a food court near an entrance and it has restuarants like Burger King
