Warlocks (Artemis Fowl)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Warlocks in the Artemis Fowl book series by Eoin Colfer are part of the Demon family (the Eighth Family) of faries. They are imps with strong magic that never undergoes the process of warping. There were originally 12 Warlocks in the Ring of Warlocks, who carried Hybras into Limbo, a plan that was ruined at the last minute by Leon Abott. The Ring members were blasted into space until one of them used their magic to petrify the others. However, 11 of them died, the surviving warlock was Qwan. Later, his apprentice, Qweffor who was pushed into lava by Abott, turned out to be alive, residing in Abott's body. The first new warlock after 10,000 years is No1, Qwan's new apprentice.
Although warlocks played a huge part in Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony, they were mentioned in other books, too, mostly as a fairy with strong magic usually used in healing (warlocks were doctors, etc).
- In Artemis Fowl), warlocks were mentioned when there was an explination of how Foaly built his time-stop towers.
- In Artemis Fowl: The Eternity Code, Holly states that "to heal Butler they needed a trained team of warlocks."
- In Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception, there is a team of warlocks at Argon's medical facility.
- In Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony, warlocks were mentioned throughout the story. The still-living ones are Qwan, Qweffor, and No1
It is traditional for a warlock to have a name starting with Qw- (Hence Qwan and Qweffor). The name offered to No1 (who refused to take it) is Qwerty, which is the first six letters on the top row most computer keyboards in order.
