Wangjing, Beijing
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wangjing (望京 Hanyu Pinyin: Wàngjīng) is a major residential area in Chaoyang District, in the northeast of Beijing. The name "Wangjing" means "view of Beijing".
Expansive in dimensions, it is a very important residential zone and has plenty of high-rise apartments built from the mid-1990s onwards. Because of the large number of Korean residents in "Wangjing" , it has earned the nickname of Beijing's Koreatown.
Wangjing sits between the northeastern 4th Ring Road and the northeastern 5th Ring Road (a new exit is being built, heading clockwise on the ring road), as well as Jingcheng Expressway and the Airport Expressway. Many buses serve the area, and Beijing subway CityRail Line 13 links to Wangjing from its Wangjing West station. The CityRail station, however, is situated inconveniently far from the centre of Wangjing, and this has created a booming business of taxis, motorcycles, and velotaxis that ferry commuters between their homes and the subway station during rush hour. Nevertheless, it is expected that the Airport Extension of Line 13 will add a few stops in the Wangjing area.
Wangjing is also home to the Wangjing Technology Park and a major office of China Telecom.
